Roos will Play Portland State for Second Time in Program History Tomorrow
Portland State
- After falling to Pacific, Kansas City was selected by the WNIT to host one of two consolation brackets, bringing Portland State, Davidson and UC Irvine to town
- The Roos will match up against Portland State on Friday. The two programs have only met once previously, a 69-55 Kansas City win in 1990
- Portland State won the Big Sky tournament last season after entering as the four seed. They were then matched up against Oregon in the first round of the NCAA tournament, falling to the Ducks 78-40.Â
- The Vikings lost six seniors from last year's NCAA tournament qualifying squad, including leading scorer Sidney Rielly and leading rebounder Courtney West.
- Portland State fell to Boise State in the WNIT opening round, 82-57. The Vikings were led in tandem by Desirae Hansen and Belle Frazier with 10 points each
- The Vikings opened their season with a 104-48 win over Multnomah, knocking down 13 three-pointers along the way
- Depending upon Friday's results, the Roos will face either Davidson or UC Irvine on Saturday. Either way, the game will be played at 3:30 p.m.
Davidson
- The Roos and the Wildcats have never met in program history
- Davidson opened up its season with a win over a 66-52 win over Georgetown before falling to Drexel in the first round of the WNIT
- The Wildcats are led by Katie Turner in the early season, averaging 17 points and 5.5 rebounds over the first two games
- Davidson's Sarah Donovan had a monster game in the Wildcats' season opener, posting 12 points and 16 rebounds. Donovan led the team last year, averaging 9.2 rebounds per game
UC Irvine
- Should the Roos and Anteaters match up, it would be the first meeting in program history
- UC Irvine enters the field after defeating San Jose State in their season opener and falling to Oregon State in the first round of the WNIT
- Junior Jordan Sanders won the initial Big West Player of the Week award, averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds over the first two games
