Roos Set to Travel to Utah Valley and Seattle U
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Volleyball team continues its Western Athletic Conference road trip as they prepare to travel to Utah Valley on Thursday and Seattle U on Saturday.
Season Overview
- With a sweep of Chicago State last Friday, Kansas City moved to .500 for the third time this season. They have yet to move above .500, and will try to do so as they take on Utah Valley on Thursday.
- The Roos have swept three of their first four WAC opponents, a first against conference competition since 2014, when they swept UTRGV (then Texas-Pan American) and Chicago State twice over a span of eight days.
- Junior Alli Schomers is the most prolific passer in the WAC, tossing out an average of 9.9 assists per set. She has reached at least 30 assists in the Roos' last seven matches.
- In the absence of Alex Ratzlaff, who missed the last two matches with a minor injury, Maddie Renn has stepped into the position of libero nicely. She led the team in digs in both matches, moving her up to ninth in the WAC in digs per set.
- Melanie Brecka and Alicia Harrington have each had 17-kill outings this season, the highest of the season for KC. The Roos are one of four WAC teams yet to have an individual 20-kill performance this season (Chicago State, Grand Canyon, NM State), and the only team without an individual 19-kill performance.
Utah Valley
- Kansas City took both matches against Utah Valley last season, their first time ever winning consecutive matches against the Wolverines. The Roos are 5-8 in the all-time head-to-head, making Utah Valley one of just two WAC teams with a winning record against KC (NM State).
- Harrington posted a double-double in both matches against the Wolverines last season, averaging 4.0 kills per set and 3.6 digs per set.
- Ty Lukes had an impressive game against Utah Valley in last year's Sep. 22 meeting, recording 12 kills on .500 hitting and seven total blocks.
- Utah Valley's Kazna Tarawhiti is the WAC's reigning Offensive Player of the Week, and currently leads the conference with a 3.9 kps average.
Seattle U
- Kansas City holds a 9-6 all-time record against the Redhawks, having swept each of the last three matches.
- Seattle U's Julia Queiroz is one of the best net defenders in the conference, averaging 1.29 blocks per set. This includes an eight block performance against Montana State on Sep. 17.
