Men's Soccer: Komodi's First Goal Not Enough to Defeat Seattle U in 4-1 Loss

Seattle, Wash. -- Kansas City Men's Soccer battled Seattle U this afternoon in its third conference game. The Roos were unable to get their first win in the conference, losing 4-1 on the road. The team moves to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Both teams started off the game with some highlights, as the Redhawks struck first in the 3rd minute. Declan McGlynn gave his team the lead, his first of three goals on the day, scoring his first hat trick in his career. Just two minutes later, the Roos found the equalizer off of a shot from freshman Kevin Komodi and a deflection. That goal marked Komodi's first of his collegiate career (watch goal here). GK Filippo Errico made three terrific saves to keep the game leveled at 1-1 to head into halftime.

The second half belonged to the Redhawks, as they scored three goals to seal the game. The first of the three came in the 52nd minute off of a handball in the box by Roos defender Jordan Salt that resulted in a penalty kick goal from Declan McGlynn. The Redhawks added two more, off the feet of Hamish Ritchie (67th minute) and Declan McGlynn (71st minute), to put the game out of reach at 4-1.

"We had a really strong first half, but ran out of gas in the second half," head coach Rick Benben said. "Kevin had a great first goal as a Roo. Aiden Cavanaugh, Antoine Precheur, Ryan Khedoo, Dontell Gilyard and Filippo Errico had solid performances along with Komodi tonight."

Up Next

The Roos will be back at Durwood Stadium for a two game homestand starting on Friday when they face up with conference opponent Incarnate Word. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
