Roos Will Host Chicago State, Travel to California Baptist
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City volleyball team will be home on Halloween night for a match against Chicago State, before traveling to Riverside, Calif. for a Monday evening game against California Baptist.
Overview
- The Roos split results last week, defeating CSU Bakersfield before falling to Grand Canyon in a battle for the second place spot in the Western Athletic Conference. This drops Kansas City to third place in the conference, half of a game ahead of UTRGV.
- Alli Schomers' streak of matches with 30+ assists now sits at 13, the longest for a Roo since Kristy Waltemeyer did so in 14 straight matches in 2004. Schomers posted a double-double with 52 assists and 13 digs against CSU Bakersfield, her sixth of the season.
- Alicia Harrington finished with single-digit kills against Grand Canyon last week, breaking a streak of eight straight matches with 10+ kills. The only other time she failed to reach double-digits was the first time that the Roos met CSU Bakersfield (7). Harrington ranks first on the team with seven double-doubles.
- Melanie Brecka shone in the attack against Grand Canyon. She led the team with 16 kills on .225 hitting. She added three service aces, her first game with more than one since the first match of the season against Kansas.
- Ty Lukes has posted a hitting percentage of .357 on the season, lower than her .417 percentage from last season. If the season ended today, .357 would still rank as the third-best season in program history.
Chicago State
- Kansas City and Chicago State met early October, with the Roos picking up their 40th win all-time against the Cougars.Â
- Melanie Brecka led for the Roos in these teams' first meetings, placing 16 kills on .316 hitting. In three career matches against the Cougars, Brecka averages 4.4 kills per set and a .311 hitting percentage. This includes a career-high 20 kill match against Chicago State on Oct. 11, 2018.
- The Cougars are on a current 12-match slide, including each of their first 10 conference matches. After taking a two set lead in their most recent match against CSU Bakersfield, the Roadrunners won the final three sets by a combined score of 65-30 (25-17, 25-10, 15-3).
- Megan Klavitter is the only Cougar in the top five of any WAC statistical category, leading the conference with 5.2 digs per set.
California Baptist
- The Roos swept the Lancers the first time around this season, giving them a 3-0 all-time record against CBU.
- Ty Lukes hit for 11 kills on .429 hitting in the first matchup, en route to her WAC Offensive Player of the Week award for the week of Sep. 23-29.
- The Roos and CBU are seventh and eigth in the WAC in blocks per set, respectively. They are two of just three teams (Chicago State) that average less than two bps.
- The Lancers' Natalie Zimmerer, who ranks fifth in the WAC with 6.97 assists per set, will likely split time in the passing game with sophomore Hana Okuhara.
