FULL PREVIEW
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -Â
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -Â
Season Overview
- Kansas City Volleyball begins the second half of conference play on the road against CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon. The Roos swept CSUB at home and fell to GCU, one of their two conference losses.
- The Roos sent across 13 aces against New Mexico State, led by freshman Kennedy Schritenthal with five. This performance pushed them to first place in the WAC in aces per set with 1.58, the only major statistical category Kansas City leads the conference in.
- Kansas City has performed well on the road this season, having dropped only one true road game to this point, a 3-0 loss to Missouri in September. Since that loss, they have gone a perfect 4-0 on the road.
- Alicia Harrington's streak of four-straight double doubles was broken in the Roos' four-set win over UTRGV, as she led the team with 13 kills, but fell short with just seven digs.
- Alli Schomers' streak of 30+ assist matches has extended to 11 after reaching 30 by the skin of her teeth against NM State and tossing out 42 assists against the Vaqueros. She is the first Roo to reach this mark since 2011, when Ella Meier did so in the season's final 11 matches.
- Three Roos reached double-figure kills against UTRGV: Harrington, Mykal Sadler and Melanie Brecka. Kansas City is 7-2 when three or more players reach double-figures.
CSU Bakersfield
- Kansas City opened up WAC play against the Roadrunners, defeating them in three sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-14). Ty Lukes led all hitters with 10 kills on .615 hitting.
- The Roos dominated the net, finishing with 10 total blocks against CSUB in their first matchup. Kansas City is 5-1 when they have 10 or more blocks in a match.
- CSU Bakersfield ranks third in the conference in digs per set and fifth in blocks per set. They find themselves in the bottom two of the WAC in all other major per set categories.
- The Roadrunners' Hana Makonova and Ally Barber are a force to be reckoned with at the net, both ranking in the top-10 in the conference in blocks per set.
Grand Canyon
- The Roos dropped their first match of conference play against the Lopes on Sep. 30, falling in four sets (25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22).
- This match could mean a lot in the final conference standings, as both of these teams sit knotted in second place at 6-2 at the moment.
- Alex Ratzlaff, who leads the Roos in digs per set and is top ten in the WAC in digs and aces per set did not play when these teams first met. She will give Kansas City added stability in the back row this time around.
- The Lopes' Annabelle Kubinski is among the tops in the conference in hitting percentage, swinging at a .417 clip, including .500 hitting in WAC play.Â
- Kaira Moss had herself a match during these teams' first meetings, throwing down 18 kills on .441 hitting.
