UMKC Knocks Off Hawks On Senior Day

(Kansas City, Mo.) – UMKC men's tennis closed out its regular season on a high note as the 'Roos upended rival Rockhurst 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Plaza Tennis Center on Senior Day.
The 'Roos took early control of the match winning all three doubles contest to take the point with the squad's lone senior Andrey Smirnov and partner Vinh Pham picking up a 6-3 win at No. 3, while the No. 1 team of Airam Castellano and Mike Psarros and the No. 2 team of Uldis Gaismins and Amaury Navette picked up wins of 6-3 and 6-4, respectively.
After honoring Smirnov between doubles play and singles play the Kangaroos would add five singles win with Castellano leading the way with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1.
Gaismins added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3, while reigning WAC Player of the Week Psarros won 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 4.
From the No. 5 spot, Pham won 6-4, 6-3 and at No. 6, Navette won 6-0, 7-5.
Smirnov, meanwhile, fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Saturday when they head to Brownsville, Texas as the No. 1 seed in the WAC Championship where they will face the winner of No. 4 Seattle and No. 5 Chicago State at 1 p.m.
