'Roos Finish WAC Play with Weekend Split

(Chicago, Ill.) - The UMKC men's tennis squad wrapped up WAC play over the weekend with a 6-1 loss on Saturday to Grand Canyon, followed by a 7-0 victory over host Chicago State on Sunday.
The 'Roos (11-11, 1-3 WAC) started off rough on Saturday, dropping the doubles point for the first time in conference play when GCU won the matches at No. 1 and No. 3. Grand Canyon used that momentum to take control in singles play. They won four of the six matches in straight sets, and five overall. Only Andrey Smirnov was able to secure a victory on the day for the 'Roos, taking a tough three-set win at No. 2.
In the Sunday finale, UMKC took care of business to secure a 7-0 victory over Chicago State, winning all three doubles matches. They continued the dominance in singles action, winning five of the six in straight sets.
It was the first WAC win of the season for the 'Roos, who will also recieve another win for seeding purposes in the conference tournament due to Seattle not making up their originally scheduled match.
UMKC will face Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday to wrap up the regular season, before hosting the WAC Championships April 24-26. They will be notified of their seeding this week.
