
Kangaroos Start Outdoor Season with Solid Performances

(Tulsa, Okla.) – The Kansas City track and field team started their outdoor season with solid performances at the 2015 Tulsa Duels hosted by The University of Tulsa at the Hurricane Track & Soccer Stadium. Eleven females among the 'Roo squad finished in the top three in their event or set a new school record. Amongst the men, ten kangaroos placed in the top three of their events including Bryce Miller surpassing UMKC's 2000-meter steeplechase record.
Starting the meet off with career bests for the women's 100m dash were senior, Briana Carter, and freshman, Genel Rollins, each taking fourth and fifth place respectively, clocking in at 12.28 and 12.30 seconds.
Doubling that distance, in the women's 200m dash, Briana Carter repeated another fourth place finish with her time of 25.26. Sophomore, Kamaya Tucker followed behind in eighth place crossing the finish line at 25.71.
Setting a couple career bests, Chantel Bethune blazed in the women's 400m, coming in second with her time of 57.11. Following in third place was the freshman, Rachel Culberson, recording a lap at 57.46 seconds. Eric Yarbrough, another freshman, was the only 'Roo to place for the men grabbing fourth with a time of 48.92—a career best.
The 60-meter hurdles indoor WAC champion and only a sophomore, Mallory Short, had a great performance in the 100-meter hurdles taking first recording a time of 14.58 seconds. Her time ranks fifth all time in school history. Junior, Sydia Darker, finished immediately behind to earn second finishing in 14.93 seconds.
For the women's 400-meter hurdles, Sydia Darker was able to snatch third place running it in 1:04.20. Veronica Rollins followed shortly in fourth recording a time of 1:05.43.
Taking it up a notch on the men's side, sophomore Devin Burton was able to finish fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with his time of 16.09. Zak Snow was the champion in the 400-meter hurdles crossing the finish line at 54.87. Terrone Garner followed with a third place finish recording a time of 56.06.
Running double laps was Janelle Johnson, taking third place in the women's 800m run with her time of 2:18.64.
Scoring big points with first place finishes was Sarah Fogarty and sophomore Bryce Miller in the women and men's 2000-meter steeplechase events. Fogarty ran a career best recording a final time of 6:55.36, while Miller beat his nearest opponent by over ten seconds, running the event in 5:49.43—best in school history.
Both of the men and women's 4x100m relay teams finished in the top three with the men coming in third with their time of 41.95 seconds, while the women took first with a time of 47.05 seconds. The men's team comprised of Jason Martin, Daniel Prioleau, Brady Adams, and Kenny Roach. The women's included Sydia Darker, Michelle Momo, Kamaya Tucker, and Genel Rollins.
Launching heights in the men's pole vault was Nicolas Basore, earning a second place performance with his mark of 3.95m—a career best. Hurling the javelin 54.14m was Alex Yoxall to earn third place. Harpreet Dosanjh followed in fourth recording a mark of 53.93m.
Over in the sandpits, Jason Martin had a sixth place finish in the men's long jump, making a leap of 6.48m. On the women's side, Traci Mills had a career best with her mark of 5.75m, granting her second place. Senior, Michelle Momo followed in fifth with her mark of 5.48m.
Winning triple jump for the men was Joshua Harden, recording a jump of 14.56m. Tying in third place was Jason Martin and Jeremy Harr with their jumps of 13.67m. Also making leaps and bounds for the women was Briana Carter taking second place with a mark of 12.09m.
Finally, in the field events, Dahlia Dyson and Kelsey Benoit had third and fourth place finishes in the women's shot put, each tossing the shot 13.24m and 12.85m, respectively. Both of these tosses rank in the top three of the UMKC record books.
Blake Hocking finished fourth in the men's shot put with his toss of 15.97m.
Winning the men's hammer was Kris Leverette with his mark of 53.38m. For the women, Dyson came in third tossing the hammer 48.26m—fifth all time in school history. Yasmin Musaddiq had a fourth place finish with her mark of 47.37m, while Benoit tossed 45.47m, earning sixth place.
