Kangaroos Drop Pair of Matches Saturday to Gonzaga, South Alabama

(Des Moines, Iowa) - The UMKC men's tennis team battled on Saturday, but couldn't win enough big points to pull out a pair of matches against Gonzaga and South Alabama, falling 4-2 and 5-2, respectively.
The Kangaroos (3-4) got more solid play from Conner Edwards, who won matches at No. 6 in both duals. Also picking up a singles win on the day was Mike Psarros.
UMKC also got good doubles play from Andrey Smirnov and Uldis Gaismins, as the pair picked up victories in both duals.
The 'Roos grabbed the doubles point against Gonzaga thanks to a tiebreaker win from Edwards and Amaury Navette at No. 3, but the momentum was stopped in singles play when the Zags grabbed straight set wins at No.1 and No. 4. UMKC took the Bulldogs to three sets at No. 5 and No. 3, but in each match, GU took wins to clinch the match.
Against South Alabama, UMKC dropped the doubles point, but tried to battle back in singles play, getting wins at No. 5 and 6, but straight set victories for USA in the other four matches was too much to overcome.
UMKC will be back on the road next Saturday at Wichita State.
