(Lincoln, Neb.) – Repping the Blue and Bold boldly, the Kansas City track and field women put on quite a show on Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb. Among the entire squad, ten females finished either in the top three in their event or set a new school record. Bryce Miller and Blake Hocking were strong on the men's side, as each set school records as well.
Head Track & Field Coach Shameika McField spoke proudly of the 'Roos performances,
“The team has worked hard. Competition like Nebraska just lets us know where we are and where we can be. Overall, I think we had solid performances. This was a great confidence building competition for us heading into the WAC Championships. We still have some work to do, but performances like Sarah Fogarty having a big PR in the women's mile and freshman, Genel Rollins, tying her PR for the 60m while also setting a new PR in the 200m—it makes the anticipation for the next competition that much greater.”
As McField said, Sarah Forgarty had a great performance in the women's one-mile run, grabbing fifth place overall and running her best time all season. She clocked in at 5:01.62, which is now third all time in school history and also has her sitting third in the WAC.
Furthermore with PRs, Genel Rollins blazed in the shorter sprints, completing the women's 60m dash in 7.77, earning a third place finish overall. She also ran the 200m in 25.32 seconds—a personal best that ranks third all time in school history. Sophomore, Kamaya Tucker followed in the 200m coming in seventh, finishing at 25.39 seconds—a personal best and fifth all time in school history.
Brooke Guiot ranks third all time in the UMKC records books with her performance in the women's 800m run, completing it in 2:16.95 minutes with a fourth place finish in the meet.
In the women's throws, senior Dahlia Dyson and sophomore Yasmin Musaddiq took second and third place in the women's 20 lb. weight throw, respectively. Dyson recorded a toss of 17.32m (56-10-00) while Musaddiq with 16.33m (53-07-00).
Breaking his previous record time from the Tiger Invitational, sophomore Bryce Miller completed the men's one-mile run in 4:10.03, granting him fourth place. This time now ranks second best in school history and is also number one in the WAC.
Having another solid performance in the men's throws, Blake Hocking took third place in the men's shot put with his toss of 16.43m (53-11-00).
Mallory Short set records all across the board with her performance in the women's 60m hurdles taking fifth place clocking in at 8.82 seconds. Not only is this a personal best for her, but also pulls her closer to the top spot in the UMKC record books as her time is still the second best in school history.
Continuing to set personal and school records, senior Briana Carter earned a fourth place finish in the women's 400m dash clocking in at 56.86 seconds. Over in the sandpit, Carter placed third with her leap of 12.09m (39-08-00) in the women's triple jump. This mark has her sitting first in the WAC and is also fourth all time in school history.
UMKC will head to USAFA, Colo. for the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 26.
