Track Sets Personal Records at Mizzou

(Columbia, Mo.) – The Kangaroos took on the Missouri Invitational on Friday (January 15), coming home with two field champions, senior Joshua Harden and junior Blake Hocking. The track and field team set personal records all across the board.
In The Field
The senior from O'Fallon, Mo., Dahlia Dyson, racked up third and fourth place finishes in the women's shot put with a toss of 12.99 (a personal record this season) and a throw of 16.21 in the weight throw. Yasmin Musaddiq also set a new personal best this season as she earned 14th in the shot put while placing 11th place in the weight throw.
On the men's side, the Lawrence, Kan. native, Blake Hocking, was champion in the shot put having a throw of 16.2m, which beat his previous personal record at the Bob Timmons Challenge. Other noteworthy performances from the throwers included senior Martin Williams' sixth place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.64m (new personal record this season) and his eighth place finish in the shot put.
Making big leaps in the sandbox, the 'Roos had numerous players place in the men and women's long jump as well as the triple jump. Of those events, Joshua Harden set a season person best in the triple jump with a mark of 14.60m taking first place; following was freshman Jeremy Harr with a sixth place finish and a season personal best.
The women too, were setting personal records as the freshman and St. Louis, Mo. native, Traci Mills made a long jump of 5.68m that granted her a second place finish in the triple jump. Briana Carter and Blessing Oparaji were not far behind as they made sixth and seventh place, respectfully.
On The Track
On the run, Kansas citian Veronica Rollins took great strides in the 800m dash placing second with her 2:19.8 split. Janelle Johnson trailed behind in eighth place with a 2:25.97 finish.
Taking it down a lap, freshman Ebony Hopgood was the only 'Roo to place in the women's 400m dash coming in 16th place with her time of 1:01.74.
The 60m hurdlers Mallory Short and Sydia Darker each set season personal bests coming in fourth (8.88 sec) and eighth (9.12) places, respectfully. A seventh place finish was earned on the men's side by the sophomore Joshua Schirmer, recording an 8.80 second split.
In the 200m dash, both the women and men were able to earn places at the finish line. Coming in sixth place with her 26.09 split was Briana Carter immediately followed by Genel Rollins' seventh place finish (21.21 sec). Terrone Garner also earned a seventh place finish in the men's race recording a 23.10 run. The sophomore Eric Yarbrough followed finishing in eleventh.

The next time the Kansas City track and field team will compete will be on Saturday, Jan. 24th, at the Jim Emmerich Invitational hosted by SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota.
