(Kansas City, Mo.) - Kansas City men's tennis is starting to hit its stride, winning its second straight contest, this time a 4-1 win over the visiting Bradley Braves on Saturday at the Plaza Tennis Center.
The 'Roos (5-13) won the doubles point for the third consecutive match to open things up, getting an 8-2 victory at No. 3 from freshman Uldis Gaismins and sophomore Andrey Smirnov, before clinching it with an 8-6 triumph at the No. 1 position, courtesy of senior Tomas Patino and freshman Mike Psarros.
The singles action saw Bradley (3-14) even the score early with a straight set win at No. 6, but minutes later it was UMKC back in front 2-1 on a sweep by Gaismins at No. 5.
The next two points came from a pair of freshmen as Vinh Pham won his match at No. 4 when his opponent retired due to injury, and Psarros clinched the team victory for the second straight day, this time a straight set win at No. 3. Pham was well in control of his match when it ended, up a set and leading 4-3 in the second.
UMKC was also leading at both No. 1 and No. 2 when the dual ended.
