Kansas City Goes 1-1 on Final Day of Road Trip in Washington

(Spokane, Wash.) - The UMKC men's tennis squad dropped a 4-0 contest to Gonzaga, but rebounded to take a 5-2 dual win over Lewis-Clark State on Sunday.
The 'Roos (3-8) opened the day with Gonzaga, and dropped a tight 8-7 decision at No. 1, in addition to a loss at No. 3 to give GU the 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs clinched the match after taking victories at No. 1, 3 and 6 in straight sets.
In the nightcap, Kansas City rolled at No. 3 in doubles play from Uldis Gaismins and Andrey Smirnov, before dropping the match at No. 1, leaving it up to Conner Edwards and Vinh Pham on court two. They pulled it out in a tiebreaker to give Kansas City the 1-0 lead.
In singles action, the 'Roos got straight set wins at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 6, while dropping matches at the other two spots. Tomas Patino, Pham, and Smirnov each picked up their second win of the weekend in singles play.
Kansas City heads to Edinburg, Texas next weekend for matches with WAC opponents Texas-Pan American and Grand Canyon.
