(Las Cruces, N.M.) - Kansas City men's tennis was again on the wrong side of some tight matches, and dropped a 6-1 decision to WAC opponent New Mexico State on Monday.
The 'Roos (1-6) picked up a 6-5 win at No. 1 doubles by Mike Psarros and Tomas Patino, but the Aggies (6-3) took victories at the other two spots to take the 1-0 lead going into singles play.
The Aggies rolled to wins in straight sets at Nos. 2, 4 and 5, but UMKC battled to a third set in the other three matches. Andrey Smirnov jumped up early in his match at No. 3, before dropping the second set to even it up. The final set was his though, picking up the first point of the day.
The other two close matches, at No. 1 and No. 6, didn't quite go the 'Roos way in the final set as both comebacks fell short.
Kansas City will head to Spokane, Washington this weekend where they will face four opponents, indluding another WAC rival in Idaho.
