Northern Arizona Squeezes Past 'Roos, 4-1

(Las Cruces, N.M.) - The UMKC men's tennis team got singles and doubles wins from senior Tomas Patino, but Northern Arizona was victorious in key matches on the way to a hotly contested 4-1 decision at the New Mexico State Tennis Complex Sunday.
The 'Roos (1-5) won the opening doubles match at the No. 1 position handily with a 6-2 romp from Patino and Mike Psarros, but NAU (2-3) pulled out 6-4 decisions at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to take what would be a huge doubles point.
In singles play, the Nos. 1-3 spots were all decided in straight sets as Patino garnered a 6-5, 6-3 win at second court. The final three matches were all tight, and going into third sets, but the Lumberjacks stole the win with a triumph at No. 5. Kansas City was in control of the final set at No. 4 with Vinh Pham, while Uldis Gaismins came from a set down to knot the match with a second-set win, unfortunately, NAU clinched the match before either could finish.
UMKC will face its first WAC opponent on Monday against the hosts, New Mexico State at 2:00 p.m. CT.
