Iowa Knocks Off Kansas City, 7-0

(Iowa City, Iowa) - The UMKC men's tennis squad gave the Iowa Hawkeys all they wanted on Tuesday, but came up on the short end of some close matches and fell by a 7-0 score.
In doubles play, Iowa (3-0) took the point after winning 6-1 at the No. 1 position, followed by a close 6-4 score at No. 2. The 'Roos (1-4) were leading 4-0 in the No. 3 position, but the Hawkeyes came all the way back to win 6-5 in a tiebreaker.
In singles play, Kansas City got an opening set win at the No. 3 spot from Andrey Smirnov, but Iowa's Brian Alden came back to win in a third set match tiebreak. The other set win came at No. 6 from Uldis Gaismins, who was playing in his second dual match of the year. He came from a set down to tie it at a set each, but the third set match tiebreaker went the way of Michael Swank.
Kansas City will head to Las Cruces, N.M. on Sunday and Monday for a pair of duals against Northern Arizona and host New Mexico State.
