(Conway, Ark.) – UMKC men's soccer got another slow start, and this time it proved to be the difference in a 3-0 loss at Central Arkansas on Sunday. The Bears scored all three of their goals in the first half, and snapped a three-game losing streak to the 'Roos.
Central Arkansas (3-1) got on the board in just the 8th minute when Taylor Hart tapped in a cross that went across the face of the goal from Wes Carson. Just 11 minutes later, Hart finished a breakaway to make it 2-0 less than 20 minutes in.
The Bears continued the onslaught just before the break as Jaden Hoth struck a shot from about 25 yards out that got over goalkeeper Chris McGaughey, putting the 'Roos (0-2-1) down by three. UMKC hadn't given up more than one goal in a game during its first two regular season outings.
UCA had only six shots in the first half, four of which were on goal, but it held UMKC to only one shot attempt and took the 3-0 lead into halftime.
Kansas City woke up a little in the second stanza, out-shooting the Bears 7-6, but only one attempt made it on frame. 'Roos goalkeeper Kevin Corby, who came on at halftime, was asked to make two saves in the half, and kept UCA off the board.
For the game, the Bears out-shot UMKC 12-8. Junior forward Jordan Rideout led the 'Roos with three shots.
It doesn't get any easier for Kansas City as it heads to Dallas, Texas next Friday and Sunday for games against No. 22 Tulsa and tournament hosts SMU, respectively.
