Against Texas Tech, Kansas City found themselves down 5-0 earlier in the first, headlined by a three-run homer to center by Red Raider infielder Taylor Powell (1) off pitcher Cinda Ramos (0-2).
Next inning, with the bases loaded for Texas Tech, Sandy James (1) hit a grand slam to left to make it a 9-0 ball game. Later in the inning, the Red Raiders extended their lead to 10 after infielder Taylor Powell RBI-singled to bring in a runner.
In the third, with Texas Tech now leading 12-0, the Kangaroos got on the board when infielder Marlee Maples drove in two runs with a double to left.
Two innings later, same score, the Red Raiders continued their offensive output when designated player Gretchen Aucoin and infielder Nikki Dunlap both RBI-singled to bring in a runner each.
The Kangaroos would have a chance to cut into Texas Tech's 14-2 lead with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth, but the Red Raiders recorded the final two outs without surrendering any runs to end the game.
In the second game against the Aggies, Kansas City was down 1-0 in the second until designated player Katie Kelley (1) sent one deep to the left for a home run to tie the game. But, New Mexico State regained the lead later in the inning when outfielder Chelsea Dohwardt RBI-doubled to left as a runner scored all the way from first.
Next inning, the Aggies made it a 4-1 ball game when infielder Kelsey Dodd (1) hit a two-run homer off pitcher Deanna Friese (2-1). Later in the inning, same score, New Mexico State loaded the bases with one out, yet the Kangaroos held steady and kept the deficit at three.
Although, the Aggies loaded the bases again in the following inning and scored six runs, capped off by a base clearing triple by outfielder Amber Olive to make it a 10-1 contest.
In the fifth, Kansas City failed to chip into New Mexico State's lead as the Aggies came away with the victory.
Tomorrow, the Blue & Gold will look to bounce back in the Troy Cox Classic with games against Texas Tech (10:30 a.m.) and Colorado State (7 p.m.).
