The Roos swept the league's weekly awards after sweeping the Jackrabbits
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Following a sweep of South Dakota State last week, Kansas City Softball has in turn swept the Summit League weekly awards. Leilani Bustamante was named Summit League Peak Performer of the Week and Delilah Robles was named Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week as the Roos earned their first conference sweep since 2022.
Bustamante was Kansas City's leader at the plate, starting in all three games and logging a team-leading 11 at-bats. She went for five base hits across the three games, good for a batting average of .455. Paired with a couple of doubles, her slugging percentage was .636 for the weekend, adding two runs batted in and two runs scored. She added lockdown defense at third base, tallying two putouts and 12 assists on a perfect 1.00% fielding percentage.
Robles carried the bulk of the load from the circle, pitching 11.0 of the 21.0 innings available. She pitched 4.0 innings in relief of the Roos' first win of the weekend, allowing just two earned runs and picking up the win. She followed that up with 6.0 innings pitched in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, grabbing her second victory in as many games. In the series finale, she came on in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-run lead, shutting the Jackrabbits down to pick up her first save of the year.
Kansas City plays a mid-week game against Tulsa at the Urban Youth Academy on Wednesday afternoon before returning to Summit League play for a home series against North Dakota State.
