- Kansas City got a 19-point, 10 rebound performance by Fred Chatmon on Thursday against IPFW, his fourth double-double of the season. He has scored 20 and 19 points in his last two games.
- Estan Tyler (.434) ranks fourth in the league in three-point shooting, while Fred Chatmon's 7.7 rebounds per game this season rank third in the Summit League. Chatmon also ranks fourth in blocks (1.2 bpg) while Tyler is sixth in assists (3.0 apg).
- UMKC has followed every win this season with a loss. The last time it won back-to-back games was January 19 and 21 of 2012.
- Kansas City got 28 points out of the post position on Saturday against USD, with Fred Chatmon and Brad Reid combining to shoot 11-of-14 from the floor. The pair followed with 24 vs. IPFW, going 9-of-11 from the field.
- UMKC has had 10 different players score double figure points, and nine guys lead the team in points for a contest.
- Kirk Korver tallied 15 points against South Dakota, the second time he did that against USD this year. The 'Roos are now 6-1 (7-19 overall) on the season when he scores in double-figures, with the only loss coming by three to Albany.
- Alton Tanner is out due to injury, sitting the last 11 games. Six different players have sat out games due to injury this season.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Oakland enters the contest with a 14-13 overall record, and is 9-4 in conference play and on a six game win streak. The Grizzlies defeated each of the teams ahead of them in the standings during the stretch.
The Grizzlies are led by guard Travis Bader's 21.9 points per game (4.3 threes made per game), while center Corey Petros puts up 12.7 points and 8.4 boards (second in SL) per contest. Also in double figures is point guard Duke Mondy, who puts up 12.9 points per outing, and leads the Summit League in both steals (85) and assists (137).
As a team the Grizzlies lead the conference in steals per game (8.5) and turnover margin, forcing 14.9 miscues per outing. They shoot 22.9 free throws per game, ranking No. 1 in the league as well. They have allowed opponents to shoot .498, ranking last in the conference.
THE COACHES
Matt Brown is in his sixth season as the head coach of the UMKC men's basketball program, and has a 63-118* overall record at the helm. Brown joined the 'Roos as the eighth head coach in school history on April 12, 2007. He has coached eight players to All-Summit League recognition.
His most successful season came in 2010-11 when he posted his only winning record at 16-14 overall. The 'Roos also had the third-most home wins in school history, going 11-4 in Kansas City, and the third-most overall wins in program history that season.
Greg Kampe is in his 29th season at Oakland, and has a 504-362 overall record there. He has led OU to a pair of conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in the last three seasons.
THE SERIES
It will be the 33rd meeting between the 'Roos and Grizzlies, with Oakland holding a 26-6 advantage. OU has won the last 13 meetings in the series dating back to a February 15, 2007 overtime win for UMKC, 80-76.
At home, Kansas City is 4-10 and on a five-game skid there. The last win at home came in that 2007 overtime contest.
Matt Brown has a 0-12 mark against OU while Greg Kampe is 26-6 vs. UMKC.
A WIN WOULD MEAN...
- Kansas City would have defeated Oakland for the first time under Matt Brown.
- Kansas City would have snapped a 13-game losing streak to the Grizzlies dating back to February of 2007.
- The 'Roos would have won at home vs. Oakland for the first time since February of 2007, a five-game skid.
