
Fort Wayne Heads To Kansas City For Summit League Showdown

The Kansas City women's basketball team (5-13, 1-4) will look for its second Summit League win of the season when they welcome in Fort Wayne (6-12, 2-4) to Kansas City. The game between the Kangaroos and the Mastodons is slated for a 2 p.m. tip at the Swinney Recreation Center.
Opponent Preview
Fort Wayne enters the contest with a 6-12 record overall and a 2-4 mark in Summit League play, picking up wins over Western Illinois and North Dakota State. Offensively, two-time Summit League Player of the Week Amanda Hyde leads the Mastodons at 19.3 ppg, while Erin Murphy is adding 11.2 ppg. On the glass, Stefanie Mauk is tops on the team at 6.7 rpg. As a team, Fort Wayne is limiting opponents to just 32.3 percent shooting from three-point range.

Named as the Kangaroo head coach on April 25, 2012, Frese brings 15 seasons of experience as a Division-I player and coach to the UMKC campus. Prior to UMKC, Frese served as the associate head coach at Northern Illinois and Illinois, while serving as an assistant at Ball State, Maryland and Minnesota during her career.
The winningest coach in program history, Chris Paul now enters his eighth season at IPFW with a career record of 81-119. In Chris Paul's first five full seasons as the head coach of the IPFW Mastodons the team set and met multiple goals, each year winning more games than in any of the five prior seasons.

Junior Eilise O'Connor finished with 26 points, her second highest total of her career, to go along with eight rebounds and three steals, but it was not enough as the Kangaroos (5-13, 1-4) fell 55-46 to Oakland (8-10, 2-4) on Thursday night at the Swinney Recreation Center.
O'Connor, who finished 9-for-9 from the free throw line, led the 'Roos in points, rebounds and steals and played the entire 40 minutes for the eighth time this season, while fellow junior Kara Lee added six points and six rebounds in the effort. Defensively, Kansas City forced 16 Golden Grizzly turnovers and had five blocks, while limiting Oakland to just 29.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc. As a team, the 'Roos out-scored Oakland 10-2 off the bench.

Freshman Taylor Leathers has posted two double-doubles this season, on Dec. 28 against Omaha with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Jan. 12 against South Dakota with 12 points and 10 rebounds, tied for the team lead with senior Kim Nezianya. Nezianya recorded her double-doubles against SEMO with 23 points and 11 rebounds and at VCU with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Eilise O'Connor, meanwhile, has one, versus Boise State with 23 points and 13 assists.
'Roos In The Community
This season, the 'Roos have spent time in the community, including volunteering at Morning Glory Cafe, the local soup kitchen, and holding clinics for youth interested in basketball. This week, the squad went to Bentwood Elementary to promote reading to the students.
