Fort Wayne, Ind. -- The UMKC softball team (13-8, 3-2) dropped both games of a doubleheader with IPFW (9-6-1, 3-2) on Friday at Snider High School. In the opening game, the 'Roos fell 3-1, before dropping a 2-0 decision in the late game.
In game one, the Mastodons took the early lead with a quick first inning run, scoring on a wild pitch from UMKC starter Deanna Friese.
UMKC then tied the game up two innings later when Kelly Fischer walked then stole second and third before scoring on an IPFW error.
That would be the only run the 'Roos would score though, and the Mastodons would notch single runs in the fourth and fifth to take the first game 3-1.
In game two, UMKC pitcher Katie Franks and IPFW pitcher Courtney Cronin would dominate early, as the duo combined to allow just three hits through the first three innings of play.
In the bottom of the fifth, though, the 'Don broke through for a pair of runs on a single and a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the seventh, the 'Roos began their comeback attempt when Kaelene Curry singled and advanced to second on an IPFW error. Fischer then sacrificed her to third, but the 'Roos could not push the run across, losing the game, 2-0.
On the day, Curry led the 'Roos with three hits, while Friese threw all six innings in the first game, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out eight. Franks, meanwhile, tossed all six innings in game two, allowing two runs, while striking out two.
The 'Roos and the 'Dons will wrap-up the series tomorrow starting at 11 a.m.
