Fort Wayne, Ind. -- The UMKC softball team (13-9, 3-3) fell in the series finale with IPFW (10-6-1, 4-2), 7-2 on Saturday at Snider High School. Junior Kelly Fischer led the 'Roos with two hits and a walk.
The Kangaroos jumped out to the early lead when junior Anna Sokolik doubled, stole second and came around to score on sophomore Emily Ott's RBI double, putting UMKC up 1-0 heading to the bottom of the second.
IPFW answered with a pair of runs in the second and one in the third to go on top 3-1.
In the fourth, the 'Dons broke the game open with four runs, extending its lead to 7-1.
In the seventh, the 'Roos would cut the lead to five when Fischer's double knocked in Kaelene Curry from first, but that would be the only run the squad would get as they fell 7-2.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action next weekend when they face South Dakota State in Lawrence.
