THE GAME
The Kangaroos head back out on the road, this time via bus on a trip across the state to Southeast Missouri State. The Redhawks have wins in three of their last five games while UMKC comes in winning four of its last five games.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Southeast Missouri enters the game with a 4-5 overall record after dropping two of its last three. The Redhawks are 4-0 at home though, with wins over Miami (Ohio) and Southeastern Louisiana.
They are led by a couple post players in sophomore forward Tyler Stone, and senior forward Leon Powell. Stone is averaging 15.2 points and 6.9 boards per game, while Powell puts up 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per outing.
The Redhawks average 70.3 points per game, while allowing 72.4 per contest. As a team they shoot a very good .483 percentage from the field, but only .317 percent from three-point range. They have only attempted 120 three pointers on the season.
THE COACHES
Matt Brown is in his fifth season as the head coach of the UMKC men's basketball program, and comes off his most successful season at the helm. In 2010-11, he posted his first winning record at 16-14 overall. The 'Roos also posted the third-most home wins in school history, going 11-4 in Kansas City, and the third-most overall wins in program history.
Brown joined the 'Roos as the eighth head coach in school history on April 12, 2007. In his five seasons as head coach, Brown has guided UMKC to a 47-82 overall record and has coached seven players to all-Summit League recognition.
Dickey Nutt is in his third season as the head coach at SEMO, and has a 21-50 overall record there. Overall, he is in his 16th season as a head coach, boasting a 210-236 mark. He came to SEMO from Arkansas State University, where he was from 1987-2008. He was the head coach there from 1995-2008.
THE SERIES
The Kangaroos and Redhawks are meeting for the foruth time overall, with SEMO holding a 2-1 advantage. UMKC won last season's meeting at home by a 70-62 score, but Southeast won the previous two contests in 2002 and 2003. The 'Roos are 0-1 on the road against the Redhawks.
Matt Brown has a 1-0 mark against SEMO, while Dickey Nutt has a 0-3 mark vs. UMKC as a head coach (0-2 at Arkansas State).
A WIN WOULD MEAN...
- UMKC would even the series with SEMO at 2-2, and defeat the Redhawks at the Show-Me Center for the first time ever.
- UMKC would be above .500 for the first time this season after starting 1-4.
- The 'Roos will have handed the Redhawks their first home loss of the season.
