Fargo, N.D. -- The UMKC softball team (19-26, 9-10) was swept in its doubleheader at North Dakota State (29-22, 13-7) on Sunday, dropping the 'Roos to fifth in The Summit League standings, one and a half games behind South Dakota State. Kaelene Curry led the squad on the day as the sophomore shortstop recorded four of the 'Roos nine hits.
In game one, Curry led the game off with a single and two batters later Anna Sokolik walked to put runners on first and second, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the UMKC threat.
In the bottom of the first, the Bison tallied two runs that were more than enough as the 'Roos managed only one baserunner the rest of the game when Curry walked in the third.
North Dakota State added four runs in the fourth and two in the sixth of starter Deanna Friese, capturing game one with an 8-0 victory in six innings.
In the game, Friese tossed all five inning allowing four earned runs while striking out seven.
In game two, the Bison again took the early lead putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first off Sokolik.
The two teams would then go scoreless until the top of the fourth when the 'Roos got their first run of the day when freshman Lindsey Davis belted her first home run of the year over the left field fence cutting the lead to 3-1.
NDSU answered the UMKC run with seven runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning off Sokolik before Emily Ott entered the game in relief and ended the Bison rally.
The 'Roos would cut the lead to the final margin of 10-3 in the fifth on an RBI double from Curry and an RBI single from Davis.
Curry finished the game 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Davis went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
UMKC will return to action next weekend when it hosts Oakland in a three-game series at Loyola Park in Kansas City.
