
D'Egidio and Russell Score In 3-2 Loss To Murray State

Martin, Tenn. -- The UMKC women's soccer team wrapped things up in Martin, Tenn., in the Puma Skyhawk Invitational on Sunday. The Kangaroos were close to their first program win but fell to Murray State, 3-2. Alyssa D'Egidio and Alyson Russell both scored for the `Roos and Jami Finnell recorded nine saves in the back.
The Kangaroos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute following a D'Egidio finish off of a Zaina Mayer cross. The freshman recorded her first collegiate goal for UMKC. But the `Roos wouldn't hold the lead for long as Nicole Evans would connect with Rachel Wright in the 27th minute to tie the game and close out the half at 1-1.
UMKC was awarded a penalty kick in the 48th minute and Russell put it away to put the lead back in the `Roos favor, 2-1.
The Kangaroo defense was unable to fight off 17 second half shots by the Racers and gave up two more goals. Katie Wilson scored in the 69th minute and the gamewinner for Murray State came in the 85th minute from Laken Dirkes.
UMKC falls to 0-6-0 on the season, while Murray State improves to 2-3.
The Kangaroos are still in search of their first program win and travel to Missouri State on Wednesday night for a 5:30 p.m. game.
