Lincoln, Neb. -- The UMKC men's tennis team got back on track with a 5-2 victory over Bradley on Sunday morning at the Nebraska Tennis Center in Lincoln. The Kangaroos opened the day by claiming the highly contested doubles point before winning four of six singles matches to pick up their sixth victory of the season.
Freshmen Nick Hays and Gustavo Guerin secured UMKC's first win of the day at the two line when the duo topped BU's Richard Robertson and Mitch Osborne by the score of 8-4. The win was the pair's first this season.
The Braves then evened the tally at one match apiece after Milos Romic and Callen Fraychineaud handed Bret Berryman and Patrick Smith their second straight loss by the score of 8-5. The 'Roos, however, claimed the point when juniors Dennis Schwarz and Erwin Quintanilla held off Evgeny Samoylov and Michel Macara-chvili to claim the 9-7 victory.
UMKC then secured the victory with straight set wins at the two, three and five positions. Smith picked up the team's first singles win with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over Fraychineaud at the two before Schwarz topped Roberton, 6-3, 6-2 at the five line. Guerin clinched the team victory for the 'Roos with his 6-2, 6-3 decision over Samoylov at the three line.
Berryman picked up the team's final point of the day when he rallied from a set down to top Romic, 4-6, 6-4, 10-1 at the No. 1 position.
Bradley, meanwhile, secured its lone two points with wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions. Macara-chvili upended Hays, 6-0, 6-4, at the four line before Osborne won a hard fought match over Quintanilla, 7-5, 7-6 (6).
