
UMKC Drops Final Game In UT-Arlington Tournament To Tennessee-Martin

Kansas City, Mo. -- The Kangaroos couldn't get the bats going against Tennessee-Martin and fell 11-1 in the final game of the UT-Arlington Tournament on Sunday afternoon. UMKC falls to 4-10 on the year, while Tennessee-Martin improves to 9-3. The Kangaroos were held to just three hits on the day with Danielle Bennefeld scoring their lone run of the day.
Tennessee-Martin had big first and third innings, scoring four runs in the first and six runs in the third for a 10-0 lead.
UMKC got its lone run of the game in the third, with a lead-off double by Bennefeld and she moved to third off of a Kaelene Curry sacrifice bunt. Bennefeld would score on the following play, as Kelly Fischer would reach first base on a Tennessee-Martin error.
Tennessee-Martin would score an insurance run in the fifth.
Samantha Hurst suffered the loss for UMKC and gave up five runs off of four hits and struck out one.
The Kangaroos hit the road again, this time to Memphis, Tenn., to participate in the Memphis Tournament. UMKC will face Memphis, Belmont, Evansville and Southeast Missouri in a three day time span. The Kangaroos face host-institution Memphis on Friday, Feb. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
