
UMKC Softball Headed To Memphis Tournament This Weekend

Kansas City, Mo. -- UMKC will compete in the Memphis Tournament this weekend and face four opponents in three days. The Kangaroos open up with Memphis on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and then face Belmont on 4:00 p.m. UMKC has one game against Evansville on Sat., Feb. 28 and will close out the tournament with Southeast Missouri State on Sun., Mar. 1 at 11:30 a.m.
UMKC is 4-10 on the year and went 2-3 last weekend in the UT-Arlington Tournament. The Kangaroos earned wins against Texas Southern (3-0) and Houston Baptist (10-2) but dropped three games to UT-Arlington, Texas Southern and Tennessee-Martin.
The Kangaroos are led by Chelsea Hartwig who has started and played in all 14 games. Hartwig is batting .378 on the season so far and has scored five runs off of 17 hits. She has hit three doubles and leads the Kangaroos with four home runs.
Having a good year on the mound for UMKC is Nicholle Ellis. She leads the team with a 2.93 ERA and is 3-0 on the season. Ellis has pitched in 28.2 innings and struck out 22 on the year.

Belmont is led by Julie Harmon, who is posting a .455 batting average this season. Harmon has scored seven runs off 10 hits with one triple, three home runs, and 12 RBIs. On the mound for the Bruins with a 3.03 ERA is Devon Schmidt. Schmidt has made 35.2 appearances for Belmont this season, striking out 37 batters. She has given up 26 hits with 21 runs scoring.

Evansville is 3-5 this season, with two wins coming from Virginia Tech (9-0, 8-0) and the third from Rutgers (2-1). The Purple Aces are led by Krista Price, who posts a .519 batting average. Price has scored eight runs off of 14 hits with four doubles, one triple, one homerun, and six RBIs. Jennifer McKee is on the mound for Evansville with a 2.78 ERA this season.
