Fargo, N.D. -- The
UMKC men's basketball team dropped an 87-49 road contest at North Dakota State
on Thursday night at the Bison Sports Arena.
The Bison built a 20-point first half lead, and they never looked back
in the 38-point victory.
After battling to an
eight all tie over the first four minutes, the NDSU scored seven unanswered
points to take a 15-8 advantage. The
squad then extended its run to 29-5 to build its lead to 24 points (37-13) with
four minutes to go in the half.
NDSU stretched its
advantage to as many as 27 (44-17) with 1:35 to play in the opening 20 minutes,
but UMKC's Latreze Mushatt scored the final seven points to cut the deficit to
44-24 at the break. The Bison shot 62.1
percent in the opening half, while limiting the ?Roos to a .321 clip from the
floor.
Coming out of the
locker rooms, North Dakota
State scored 17-of-21
points over the first seven minutes of action to push its lead to 33 points
(61-28). The Bison kept applying the
pressure, as the margin grew to as many as 43 (76-33) before the squad claimed
its 11th straight victory by the score of 87-49.
The Kangaroos
finished the contest with a .262 (17-65) field goal percentage and a .286
(4-14) mark from long range. NDSU,
meanwhile, shot .593 (35-59) from the floor and .286 (4-14) from three-point
land. The Bison also won the battle on
the glass, 46-33.
A pair of UMKC
players finished the game in double digits with Mushatt leading the way with 12
points. Freshman Dustin Dibble added 10,
which was a career-high.
Two Bison players,
meanwhile, reached double figures in the game.
Winkelman made 10-of-13 shot attempts en route to 24 points to go along
with a game-best seven boards.
UMKC (6-20, 2-11)
will round out its road trip at South
Dakota State
on Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m.
