Men's Tennis Cruises To Fourth Straight Win In 7-0 Sweep Over Northern Colorado

Colorado Springs, Colo. -- The UMKC men's tennis team completed a weekend sweep as it secured its fourth straight victory with a 7-0 win over Northern Colorado in Sunday in Colorado Springs. The Kangaroos cruised to the victory by winning all nine matches on the day with all six singles wins coming in straight sets.
UMKC opened the match strong by easily taking the doubles point. Serge Ristivojevic and Gustavo Guerin started things off with an 8-1 win over Andre Lepine and Andy Green at the three line. Patrick Smith and Bret Berryman then gave the 'Roos the point with an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 position over Adam Perez and Calix Van Lier.
Juniors Dennis Schwarz and Erwin Quintanilla oroceeded to give UMKC the doubles sweep with a win at the two position. The duo topped Jordan Boecker and Clay Mundell by the score of 8-6.
In singles, all six Kangaroo players cruised to straight set victories. Ristivojevic lost only one game at the three line before going on to top Green, 6-1, 6-0. Schwarz topped Mundell, 6-2, 6-1, at the five position, and Quintanilla defeated Lepine, 6-2, 6-0, at the six.
Guerin, meanwhile, clinched the team victory for UMKC with his win at the four line. The freshman defeated Boecker by the scores of 6-4, 6-2.
The two most competitive matches of the day came at the top two singles positions and both outcomes were decided by identical 6-4, 7-5 scores. Berryman defeated Perez at the No. 1 position, while Smith topped Van Lier at No. 2.
UMKC (4-1) will have a month off before hosting Creighton in Kansas City on Feb. 27.
