Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team closed out its inaugural season on Saturday afternoon against Centenary at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field. The Kangaroos dropped their final regular season match in overtime, 2-1, to finish the 2009 season with a 1-17-1 overall record and a 1-8 mark in Summit League action.
The two teams played a pretty even game in the first half, but the Ladies were able to jump on the scoreboard first. In the 29th minute, Katie Valdez took a free kick just outside the 18-yard box and placed it into the upper corner just out of Jami Finnell's reach.
The second half seemed to be slipping away from the `Roos until the offense all of a sudden came alive in the 88th minute. After a UMKC shot hit the cross bar and bounced down, Alyssa D'Egidio followed the shot in the box and headed it past Centenary goalkeeper Kate Donnelly to force the game into overtime.
The game would end in heart break for the `Roos as Allison Rucinski would get the win for the Ladies in the 99th minute.
Finnell finished with eight saves and the Kangaroos posted four shots-on-goal, with D'Egidio and Meagan Malloy each recording two.
