
Kangaroos Cruise To A 4-0 Win Over South Dakota State

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC men's tennis team picked up its first Summit League victory and its third overall win of the season with a 4-0 decision over South Dakota State on Friday afternoon at the Plaza Tennis Center. The Kangaroos claimed the doubles point and it got singles wins at two, three and four to easily win the match.
In doubles, UMKC's top two pairs cruised to easy victories, as the squad jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Serge Ristivojevic and Patrick Smith opened with an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 position over Michael Engdahl and Cory Paluch. Sophomores Erwin Quintanilla and Dennis Schwarz then clinched the point with a win over Brian Hylle and Steve Granz by a score of 8-3.
In singles, Smith, Schwarz and Quintanilla all claimed their matches in straight sets to send the Kangaroos to the victory. Smith topped Paluch, 6-4, 6-4 at the two line, Schwarz defeated Hylle, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 and Quintanilla was victorious over Granz at the four line, 6-2, 6-0.
Ristivojevic also narrowly missed picking up a win. The freshman was leading Engdahl, 6-4, 5-2, but the match was stopped once the final team result was decided.
UMKC (3-6, 1-1) will return to action at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning when it faces off against IUPUI.
