
Kangaroos Win Second Straight In Men's Tennis

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC men's tennis team won its second straight match when it topped IUPUI, 4-1, on Saturday morning at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City. The Kangaroos won the doubles point and it got singles victories at the three, four and six lines to secure the victory.
In doubles, freshmen Nick Mader and Nick Patonai opened the day with an 8-1 win over Jorge Yunes and Blake Powers at the No. 3 position. The win extended the duo's winning streak to three matches. UMKC's No. 1 pair of Serge Ristivojevic and Patrick Smith clinched the point for the squad, as they claimed an 8-4 win over Gabriel Garcia and Gregory Sosa.
The Kangaroos were also on the verge of winning at the two line, but the match between Erwin Quintanilla and Dennis Schwarz and the Jaguars' E.J. Dechow and Jesus Diaz was stopped with UMKC winning, 7-4.
IUPUI evened the match at one when Yunes claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mader at the five line. The Kangaroos immediately answered with victories from Schwarz (6-2, 6-0) over Dechow at the three line and Quintanilla over Diaz (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4. Patonai then clinched the UMKC victory with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win over Powers at No. 6.
UMKC (4-6, 2-1) will close out its weekend with a 1 p.m. match against Western Illinois on Sunday afternoon.
