Kangaroos Cruise To 6-1 Win At Northern Colorado

Greeley, Colo. -- The UMKC men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over Northern Colorado on Sunday morning to round out its stay in the state of Colorado. The Kangaroos claimed the doubles point, and they won five-of-six singles matches to win their second match of the season.
In doubles play, freshmen Nick Patonai and Nick Mader opened things with an 8-1 victory over Ryan Dunn and Andrew Buzako at the three line. The victory is the first for the freshmen duo this season. Dennis Schwarz and Erwin Quintanilla then followed with an 8-4 win over Austin Nunn and Erik Morin at the two line to clinch the point for the Kangaroos. The pair finished the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record. In the final doubles match, UMKC's No. 1 duo of Serge Ristivojevic and Patrick Smith dropped a tight 9-8 decision to Paul Tschetter and Vinnie Fallico, as the Bears avoided the sweep.
In singles, the Kangaroos got straight set victories from the one, two, four and six lines. Ristivojevic defeated Nunn, 6-2, 6-4, at the one position, Smith topped Fallico, 6-3, 6-3, at the two, Dennis Schwarz won his fourth straight match at the No. 4 position with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Dunn, and Patonai secured his first collegiate victory with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Buzako.
UMKC's final victory of the day came at the No. 3 position where Quintanilla claimed a three setter. UNC's Tschetter opened with a 6-0 victory in the first set, but the Kangaroo sophomore rebounded with a 6-4 victory in the second before winning the third set in a super tiebreaker, 10-5.
The Bears got their lone win at the No. 5 line where Morin was victorious over Mader, 2-6, 7-6 (7), 9-11.
UMKC (2-5) will open Summit League play on Thursday morning in Kansas City. The Kangaroos will open play against Oral Roberts at 9 a.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center.
