A Look At Florida Atlantic
The Owls enter Monday's contest with a 1-4 overall record this season. The team opened the season with a pair of road losses at Rhode Island (63-90) and at Boston College (62-68) before playing in the Daytona Beach Exempt Tournament. At the tournament, FAU posted a 1-2 record, as it topped Stetson (68-62) before falling to South Florida (100-69) and Cleveland State (76-66).
Two Owl players are averaging in double digits on the season with Paul Graham III leading the team with a 17.8 clip. Center Carlos Monroe, meanwhile, is averaging a double-double with 15.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

- With its next victory, FAU will reach 200 wins all-time.
- The Owls were picked to finish fourth in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference this season. Center Carlos Monroe was selected as a preseason all-conference selection.
- FAU Associate AD for External Relations Terry Mohajir was the Assistant AD for External Relations at UMKC from 1997 to 2004.
FAU vs. UMKC - The Series
The all-time series between UMKC and FAU is tied 1-1. Last season, the two teams played a non-conference home-and-home series, where each team defended its home court. The Kangaroos won 85-70 on Nov. 13 behind 25 points from Dominique Johnson and 24 points by Quinton Day. The Owls, however, returned the favor with a 70-61 win in Boca Raton on Dec. 23. Dane Brumagin had 14 points to lead UMKC, while Derrick Simmons finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds for FAU.
Last Contest
The UMKC men's basketball team rallied from a 12-point second half deficit to top Arkansas Tech, 90-82, last Saturday at Municipal Auditorium. Trailing 76-68 late in the game, the Kangaroos used a 20-0 run over a four and a half minute span to turn an eight-point deficit into a 12-point lead. Five Kangaroo players scored in double figures, as the team finished with a .472 field goal percentage in the game.
Notes From The ATU Game
- ATU finished with 18 steals in the game and forced UMKC into 26 turnovers.
- UMKC's bench outscored the ATU reserves, 39-14.
- The Kangaroos made a season-high 29 free throws, and they had a season-most 36 free throw attempts.
Defending Their Home Court
UMKC has posted a perfect 2-0 record at Municipal Auditorium this season. The team is averaging 84.5 points per game at the venue, while shooting .495 (50-101) from the floor and .455 (20-44) from three point range. Dating back to last season, the Kangaroos have won five straight games at Municipal.
Unlucky 62
There's something about the number 62. The Kangaroos have finished with 62 points in all three losses at Kansas, Northern Arizona and Arizona this season.
Switching It Up
Head Coach Matt Brown used his third different starting line-up on Saturday against ATU. For the first time this season, freshman Reggie Hamilton was not among the starting five.
Clutch In The Clutch
The Kangaroos are making .903 (28-31) free throws in the final three minutes of regulation this season. Freshman James Humphrey (8-8) and senior Brent Stephens (9-9) are perfect from the line in these situations.
Balance Is Key
The Kangaroos had five players score in double figures in the 90-82 victory over Arkansas Tech. It is the first time this season that five players have scored 10 or more points in a single game and the first time since the regular season opener that more than three players were in double digits.
Hail To The Three
The Kangaroos are averaging 25.8 three point attempts per game this season. The team is connecting on 9.2 of those chances, while shooting .357 from the behind the three-point arch.
UMKC finished with 11 long balls against Arkansas Tech on Saturday. It was the second time this season (at NAU) that the team has made 10 or more three pointers in a game.
Carrying The Load
Senior Brent Stephens has scored in double digits in each of UMKC's five games to start the 2007-08 season. The forward, who is averaging a team-best 16.8 ppg., has led the team in scoring in two games on the year. Against Washburn on Nov. 13, he scored a career-high 28 points, which included an 11-of-11 night from the free throw line.
