Indianapolis, Ind. -- A free-kick goal by Ali Dorri wasn't enough to overcome a pair of goals scored in a 28-second span in the first half by IUPUI, as UMKC fell 4-1 in conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Kangaroos controlled much of the opening action, generating four solid chances by the 20th minute.
Unfortunately, the Kangaroos' Kyle Brewer would be whistled for a hand ball inside the box in the 21st minute, giving up UMKC's first penalty kick of the season. Vangel Nacovski made no mistake, slotting the ball home.
The hosts would strike again 28 seconds later, as Louie Leger cleaned up the rebound off a shot by Eric Weigman to give IUPUI a 2-0 lead.
UMKC battled, trying to pull one back before halftime but went into the break scoreless.
Dorri cut the lead in half for the Blue-and-Gold in the 54th minute, curling a free kick into the top right corner of the net from 24 yards out.
The recovery would be short-lived, however, as Weigman struck in the 58th minute, glancing a shot off UMKC netminder Brandon Amaya - who had entered at half - and inside the near post.
IUPUI would add a fourth in the 73rd minute, as Nacovski fed Weston Hawkins at the back post, where Hawkins buried it into the net.
The Kangaroos outshot IUPUI 15-11 on the afternoon, but managed just three efforts on frame to seven for the hosts. Ken Cooper was charged with the loss for UMKC, making three saves in 45 minutes of work.
UMKC (5-5-1, 1-1-0 Summit League) is back home next weekend, hosting Western Illinois in a rematch of the 2006 conference tournament championship. The game is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Bourke Field.
