Nikki Champe, who joined the UMKC women’s soccer program as an assistant coach in February 2008, is entering her second season with the `Roos. Champe joined the program after serving on the coaching staff at Kent State University from 2005-07.
During the 2009 season, Champe helped goalkeeper Jami Finnell lead The Summit League in saves (159) and saves per game (8.37). Finnell was also named the league Co-Defensive Player of the Week in September.
From 2005-07, Champe served as a member of the KSU coaching staff under head coach Rob Marinaro. She was a volunteer coach in 2005, a graduate assistant in 2006 and a full-time assistant in 2007. During her time with the Golden Flashes, the team posted a 26-29-7 overall record.
Prior to joining the Kent State staff, Champe spent the 2004-05 season as the head girls soccer coach and assistant softball coach at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Canton, Ohio. Following the competition season, she was selected as the Stark County Coach of the Year.
On the club scene, Champe served as a coach with the Akron Metro Futbol soccer club from 2002-2008. She was the head coach for the U-10 and U-12 team, and she assisted coaching the U-16’s and U-18’s.
As a player, Champe competed for Kent State during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. She helped lead the 2003 squad to a co-MAC regular season title with a 12-5-3 overall record and a 8-2-2 mark in conference games. Prior to transferring to KSU, she played for two seasons at Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College in her hometown of Washington, Pa.
Champe, who has her USSF National License, an NSCAA National and Advanced National diploma, graduated from Kent State in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in business. She then earned her master’s degree in sports management from KSU in 2007.
