Josie Tofpi enters her second season with Kansas City Softball in 2026. She joined the Kansas City staff following a season in an assistant coaching role at Missouri Southern. This followed a historic playing career for the Lions that saw her earn All-MIAA honors in four seasons and NFCA All-Region honors in 2021.
“I am beyond excited to join the Kansas City Softball program,” Tofpi said. “I am grateful or the opportunity to contribute my knowledge and skills to the team and am even more eager to continue learning and growing alongside this exceptional group of people.”
In her current role with the Roos, Tofpi will be tasked primarily with defensive coaching in the infield and outfield. She will also assist in recruiting and camps/clinics.
The 2025 season saw a pair of Roos make the Summit League postseason lists as Briona Woods and Gianna Lickel each earned honorable mention nods.
“We are really looking forward to having Josie as a part of our Roo family,” Head Coach Stokes O’Connor said. She has such a passion for teaching the game and I know she is going to help our defense tremendously. Being a standout player during her time at Missouri Southern, I know she is going to bring our work ethic to a new level.”
Tofpi’s lone season as an assistant coach at MSSU saw the Lions post a 33-22 overall record, the program’s fifth-straight year with a winning record. Six Lions earned All-MIAA honors, including three Gold Glove award winners.
A four-time All-MIAA honoree, Tofpi was an integral part of one of the most successful stretches in Missouri Southern’s program history. She finished her career ranked first in program history in runs scored (147), third in hits (220), fourth in doubles (42), assists (462) and total bases (318) and fifth in extra base hits (65).
In 2023, Tofpi’s senior year, the Lions went 41-15, the most wins since 2001 and the seventh-most single-season wins in the program’s 50-year history. In addition, the team was runner-up at the MIAA Tournament and qualified for the NCAA DII Regionals for the first time since 2001.
Tofpi earned her degree in Psychology from Missouri Southern State in 2023. She was a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll recipient and won the E.O. and Virginia Humphrey Award in 2023, honoring MSSU’s top student-athletes.
A native of Moore, Okla., she graduated from Westmoore High School in 2018, earning First Team All-District, All-Region and All-State honors throughout her high school career.
