Roos Heads to Memphis With Momentum

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Kansas City Women's Soccer team travels east to take on the Memphis Tigers on Sunday at 7 PM.Â
"Memphis will be another great opportunity for us to compete and continue building," said Kansas City Head Coach Jess Smith. "They will be very athletic and we will have to deal with a lot of wide services & some dangerous individual players. It will be important for us to stay compact and disciplined defensively, and then move the ball quickly when we have possession. We have to play with confidence and play forward when it's on so we can create chances. The team's mindset is in a good place and they are ready to compete Sunday."
Kansas City is coming off its first win of the season after a 2-0 victory over in-state rivals Missouri State. The opening goal in the 20th minute, scored by Ashley Koch after Olivia Platt put her through on goal with a perfectly weighted pass, was the first goal of open play this year for the Roos and was Koch's first of the season as well. Platt would then seal the game from the penalty spot in the 84th minute after she was brought down in the box by a Missouri State defender.Â
Kansas City average 8.6 shots per game which ranks sixth in the Summit League. The Roos have converted both of their penalty kicks this season. KC has commited 62 fouls on the season that have resulted in six yellow cards, and one red card. Anika Patton ranks third in the Summit League in saves with 26.
