“Rooted,” “The Big Leap” and “Bounce City” will help advance the department’s connection to Kansas City and vision for the future
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Athletics introduced a new strategic branding positioning framework Monday, establishing an evolved identity for the department as it continues to strengthen its connection to the university, alumni, and stakeholders throughout the broader Kansas City community.
The framework is led by "Rooted," supported by "The Big Leap" and "Bounce City." Each concept will serve a distinct purpose in communicating what Kansas City Athletics represents, where the department is headed and how fans can engage in its future.
The launch coincides with the release of season tickets for the 2026-27 Kansas City Men's Basketball season. Season tickets are available for purchase immediately at kcroos.com/MBBtix.
"This is about clearly defining who we are and the role Kansas City Athletics plays in representing both our university and our city," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin said.
"Rooted" will serve as the lead positioning concept, reflecting the relationships that connect Kansas City Athletics to its home. It encompasses the department's ties to the city, university, alumni, current and former student-athletes, and supporters who have helped shape the Roos.
The concept will appear throughout Kansas City Athletics' storytelling, fan engagement and community outreach. It is grounded in the concept that Kansas City is more than a location, it is the Roos' identity.
"We do not simply compete in Kansas City; we represent Kansas City," Martin said. "Being Rooted means understanding our identity, investing in the relationships around us and giving people throughout the community a meaningful connection to Kansas City Athletics."
"The Big Leap" represents the department's vision for growth and its role in advancing the university. The concept will help frame major milestones, institutional progress and opportunities for investment as Kansas City Athletics works toward a higher level of competitive and organizational success.
"Bounce City" will bring energy to the fan experience through bold, consumer-facing content, particularly surrounding basketball and game day. The concept is intended to capture the personality, pace and excitement of Kansas City Athletics while creating new ways for fans to engage with the Roos.
Together, the three concepts support the department's broader identity as Kansas City's College Team. They provide a consistent strategic foundation for communicating with fans, student-athletes, alumni, donors, campus partners and the city.
Fans can take part in the department's next chapter in the 2026-27 men's basketball season. The Roos will begin a new era under Head Coach Mark Turgeon, one of the winningest coaches in college basketball history, while playing the bulk of their home schedule at Municipal Auditorium.
Season-ticket options begin at just $119 for general admission seats with additional options for loge seating and reserved seating. Additionally, fans can reserve their spots courtside or in the newly-founded Roo Row, complete with access to the Courtside Club with complimentary food and drinks. Tickets can be purchased at kcroos.com/MBBtix or by contacting the Kansas City Athletics Ticket Office at (816) 889-8758.
"This vision becomes real when people choose to be part of it," Martin said. "We want our supporters, our alumni and basketball fans across the Kansas City to put down their roots with our athletics program and campus community. Securing season tickets is the first opportunity to help create the atmosphere and momentum that this program deserves."
