Roos Take on Creighton Thursday in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The Kansas City Women's Soccer team travels up to Omaha to take on the Creighton Bluejays on Thursday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 PM.
"We were disappointed in the result on Sunday, so I know the team is eager to compete Thursday and execute plays," said Kansas City Head Coach Jess Smith. "We have a young roster, so every match is about gaining experience as a group and preparing for our conference season. Â Creighton will be another good test, and we are looking forward to the opportunity to improve from last match."
Kansas City(0-2-1) has dropped two of its first three matches of the season, once to start the season at Iowa State and then in the previous match this past Sunday, when they lost 3-1 to UC Riverside. The Highlanders scored two goals after the Roos went down a man in the 67th minute; it was the first red card since Rose Proteau was sent off last season against Oral Roberts. Last season, KC lost their opening two games; one of those two games was a 2-1 loss at home against Creighton, and then the Roos rattled off 4 wins out of 5 and finished the season 9-8-3, the first winning season under Head Coach Jess Smith.Â
Maryam El-Demerdash got Kansas City off the scoreless mark Sunday when she converted a penalty in the first half of play, after Mia Urosevich was brought down in the box. Sophomore goalkeeper Anika Patton leads the team in saves with eight on the season.
