
Kansas City Hosts Rockhurst in Battle of Rockhill

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Women's Soccer team hosts cross-town rivals Rockhurst in the Battle of Rockhill, Friday evening at Durwood Stadium; kickoff is slated for 7 PM.
The Roos look to bounce back in Friday's home opener after a season-opening 4-0 loss at Iowa State this past Sunday, where KC recorded 11 shots, with 3 of them being on goal.
KC won the Battle of Rockhill last season in dominating fashion with a 7-0 win over their city rivals. Kansas City scored five goals in the second half to cruise to victory. Ashley Koch and Kayla Fraser both scored & assisted in the match, while Olivia Platt, Kaitlyn Edwards, Genevieve Hull, and Maryam El-Demerdash all added an assist.
Kansas City is 9-5-3 in home openers all-time and is 3-3-0 under Head Coach Jess Smith in that time.
ABOUT ROCKHURST
Rockhurst is led by Greg Herdlick, who enters his 28th year of coaching at Rockhurst. The series is tied 1-1-1, with the first meeting taking place in 2009, when the Hawks took a 1-0 win at home. Kansas City tied the series up last season in a 7-0 win at Durwood Stadium. Last season, Rockhurst went 8-6-4, 7-4-3 in the GLVC; their season ended in the opening round of the GLVC tourney to Maryville. The Hawks had two players named to the D2CCA All-Region First Team, including returning midfielder Caitlyn Smith.
SERIES HISTORY
The series is tied 1-1-1; Kansas City won the previous meeting 7-0 last season at Durwood Stadium. The first meeting was back in 2009, when Rockhurst won 2-0.
