Late Home Run Lifts Shockers Over Roos

Alyssa Droge went 4.1 IP and allowed just two earned runs in the start
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Softball (15-28, 5-9 Summit) fell to Wichita State (28-15, 15-6 AAC) 5-2 on Wednesday. Alyssa Droge got the start on the mound for the Roos and was relieved by Katie Noble. The teams went back and forth exchanging runs, before the Shockers eventually used a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to vault them to a victory.
After a quiet start from both squads, the Shockers broke the ice with one run in the top of the third. Wichita State struck next with an RBI double in their half of the fifth stanza.
After the Shockers extended their lead to two, the Roos bats came to life in the bottom of the fifth. With two singles and a sacrifice bunt to kick off the inning, Megan Johnston got the Roos on the board with an RBI ground out to shortstop. Elleanna Navarro then kept the momentum going as she blasted an RBI single into center to draw Kansas City even at 2-2. Wichita State used a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to retake the lead, which they were able to hold onto for a 5-2 victory.
Alyssa Droge completed four and one-third innings, yielding just two runs while punching out three Shocker hitters. Katie Noble came in for relief of Droge and completed two and two-thirds innings while allowing three runs and punched out two Shockers. Ella Husak and Monica Franklin led the way for the Roos offense, as they combined for five of their eight hits. Megan Johnston and Elleanna Navarro each chipped in with RBIs.
