Delilah Robles threw a complete game shutout and KC walked it off in the sixth
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Softball (9-14) shutout Western Illinois (6-16), 8-0, in six innings this evening. The Roos snap a seven-game skid with the win, their first run-rule victory of the season. It was also Kansas City's first shutout since a 1-0 win over North Dakota on May 3, 2024.
Delilah Robles picked up the win, throwing a complete-game shutout on 81 pitches with three strikeouts. Leilani Bustamante hit a walk-off triple in the sixth, driving in Lauren Parker.
The Roos got on the board early with a two-out, bases-clearing triple from Adelyn French in the bottom of the second inning. She drove in Bustamante who reached on an error, and Mia Corres who was hit by a pitch.
In the top half of the third inning, Robles worked around a lead off double, stranding the runner at third base and keeping Western Illinois scoreless. Then in the top of the fourth, she got into a bases-loaded jam but trusted her defense to make plays and get out of it. Out of those plays, the third baseman Leilani Bustamante was in the right position at the right time nabbing a bunt attempt out of the air.
Kansas City scored three runs in the bottom part of the fourth. Ella Husak did her job with an RBI ground-out that scored Ava Martinez. Maya Anthony walked and came around to score on a wild pitch. Then Megan Johnson tallied an RBI single that drove in French, making the score 5-0.
The Roos picked up two more runs on two hits in the fifth with the help from Corres, who singled and drove in Gianna Lickel. Husak tallied her second RBI of the game by walking in Maya Anthony.
Husak reached base twice via walk, finishing with two RBIs. Corres notched two RBIs as well, coming around to score once.
The Roos open Summit League play against St. Thomas at the Urban Youth Academy on Friday at 5 p.m.
