
Roos Blitzed by Hot-Shooting Jackrabbits in Brookings

Emani Bennett paced Kansas City with 14 points on 55% shooting
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kansas City Women's Basketball (7-19, 4-9) ran into a buzz saw in Brookings, falling 93-40 to South Dakota State (20-6, 10-2) on Valentine's Day. Emani Bennett led Kansas City in scoring with 14 points on 6-11 shooting from the field. The Roos shot 30.2% from the floor for the game while the Jackrabbits went 59.6% overall and 60% from three.
The Roos got on the board thanks to strong takes from Zaire Harrell and Kelby Bannerman in the first two minutes of play. Later on when KC was down six, Trinity Chears connected on a catch and shoot three pointer that cut the deficit down to 10-7 halfway through the first quarter.
From that point on, the Jackrabbits went on a 22-3 run to close the first frame. South Dakota State continued at a high pace offensively in the second out-scoring the Roos 22-7 in the quarter. KC shot 28% in the first half, going 7-25, while SDSU shot 65% in the half and connected on 11 three pointers, putting the game out of reach for the Roos.
While Kansas City conducted better offense in the second half, the advantage for South Dakota State continued to grow steadily as the game wore on and culminated in the 90-43 final as the last buzzer sounded. In addition to Em. Bennett's 14, Chears scored a season-high nine points off the bench as KC's second leading scorer of the afternoon.
Seven Roos found themselves on the scoreboard in Brookings. Additionally, the Roos forced 15 turnovers but only scored two points off those Jackrabbit miscues. Meanwhile on the other side, KC committed 15 turnovers which SDSU translated into 12 points of their own. Kansas City was out-rebounded 41-23 and fell in the assists column 28-6 as well.
The Roos come back home to KC and take on Denver this Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. inside the Swinney Center.
