BROOKINGS, S.D. — Kansas City Men's Basketball stayed within striking distance for much of the night but was unable to keep pace down the stretch in a 90-62 loss to South Dakota State on Saturday evening at Frost Arena.
The Roos kept the game competitive for the first 30 minutes and led for extended stretches in the opening half, showing composure early against the Jackrabbits. Kansas City controlled the tempo for much of the first 20 minutes and went into the break within reach after trading runs.
South Dakota State began to create separation midway through the second half, using a sustained scoring run to push the margin into double figures. Kansas City was unable to generate a counter as the Jackrabbits capitalized on second-chance opportunities and efficient shooting to pull away in the final 10 minutes.
Kasheem Grady II led the Roos in scoring for the second straight game, going for 14 points on 4-of-8 three-point shooting. Karmello Branch added another double-digit scoring performance wtih 12 points, marking the 12th time this season he has reached that mark. Jerome Palm added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Kansas City will return to action next week, hosting Omaha on Saturday evening.
