Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City Men's Basketball is back on the road on Thursday evening, traveling to Vermillion for a meeting with South Dakota. Since taking over in 2021-22, Head Coach Marvin Menzies has tallied a 2-2 record in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center with wins in 2022 and 2024.
- The Roos are coming off a narrow loss to North Dakota last Saturday, one in which Kansas City shot 54.0% from the field, 63.2% from three-point range and 92.9% from the free throw line. It was the first time since 2012 that KC went for 50/60/90 shooting and marked the first time since 2022 that the Roos went above 60% from behind the three-point arc.
- CJ Evans led Kansas City with a career-high 24 points on Saturday, going 9-of-15 from the field and 2-of-3 from three. He added seven assists, becoming the first Kansas City player to go for 20-plus points and seven-plus assists since Khristion Courseault did so against South Dakota on Feb. 22, 2024.
- Karmello Branch added 20 points for the Roos against the Fighting Hawks, going 5-of-8 from three-point range. Branch has knocked down four-or-more triples in eight games this season, including each of the Roos' last three contests. He currently ranks 46th in the nation with 2.94 three-point makes per game.
- Jerome Palm went for four blocks against UND, coming within one of his career-best set against Weber State earlier this season. He is the first Roo with three games of three-plus blocks since Jeff Ngandu in 2022-23.
South Dakota Notes
- South Dakota enters Thursday's match up with a 9-9 overall record and a 1-2 mark in Summit League play. The Coyotes most recently won an 82-72 decision over Denver.
- Isaac Bruns leads the Summit League and ranks 21st in the nation, averaging 20.7 points per game. He has gone for 17-plus in 11-straight games.
- As a team, the Coyotes rank 47th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 13.22.
- Kansas City owns an 11-9 advantage in the all-time series and has won three of the last four meetings.
- USD won the most recent contest, a 79-72 decision on Feb. 13 of last season. Jayson Petty led KC with 21 points in that game.
