Kansas City Notes
- No. 18 Kansas City Men's Soccer brings things to Durwood Soccer Stadium for the first time this year, hosting No. 24 Missouri State in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament Second Round game that saw the Roos advance, 2-1.
- Coming off a season-opening draw against No. 5 SMU, the Roos will look for results against ranked opponents in back-to-back games for the first time in program history. Kansas City has played two-straight games against top-25 teams just three times previously (2015, 2021 and 2024).
- Tallying two goals against the Mustangs, KC matched the program's most goals in the first game of the year since scoring three in a win over Central Arkansas in 2017. The Roos also tallied a pair of goals against No. 15 Virginia Tech in a season-opening draw on Aug. 26, 2021.
- Kansas City will look to take down the Bears and earn a win in its home opener for the first time since the 2020 season, when the Roos defeated Omaha, 3-1 on Feb. 22, 2021.
- Making his Kansas City debut, Mariano Beunza scored the season-opening goal, making it the sixth-straight year that KC's first score of the season came from a first-year Roo.
Missouri State Notes
- Missouri State enters the match up with the No. 24 ranking and a 1-0 record after a 4-1 win over SeattleU on Thursday.
- The Bears were 12-4-2 last season, going undefeated in Missouri Valley play and earning the #15 seed in the NCAA Tournament.Â
- Fumiya Shiraishi led the Bears in their season-opening win, scoring all four of MSU's goals.
- The Roos and Bears have met 32 times in the past, with Missouri State playing to a 24-6-2 all-time advantage. However, KC won both meetings last season.
- These teams met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, a 2-1 Roo win with goals scored by Sora Shibata and Ales Kohoutek.
