The star sophomore sprinter set a new personal and program record, 20.59 at the KT Woodman Classic
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - For the fourth time in the 2024-25 track and field season, Kansas City's Tory Lanham has won the Kwik Star Summit League Men's Track Peak Performer of the Week award. Lanham was awarded with the achievement three times in the indoor season and now once so far halfway through the outdoor season.
Lanham has now reached rare air in KC track and field history, becoming the first men's athlete to achieve four weekly Summit League awards in a single indoor & outdoor season since the 1997-98. Furthermore, Lanham's four men's athlete of the week nods by the Summit League are tied for the most in a career by a Roo with Deandre Free who won three in 2000 and one in 2001.
Lanham put together a career outing at the KT Woodman Classic this past weekend, taking the 200-meter dash tape in 20.59 seconds. The KC native's 20.59 time is not only a new career-best but it's also the new outdoor men's 200m school record, breaking the previous mark of 21.07 which was set by Lanham himself in the 2024 outdoor season.
It's the second time the reigning Summit League 200-meter gold medalist has registered a sub-21 second time in this event. The first came in the 2025 indoor season when Lanham boasted a 20.93 at the Missouri Invitational back in early February.
Lanham's 20.59 time also ranks first in the Summit League and is the lone time in the conference to come in at below the 21.0 second mark. Nationally, the Summit League Indoor Championships MVP's record-breaking time ranks in a tie for the 15th best 200m time in the country.
As the 2025 outdoor season continues, Lanham hopes to keep shaving off more time on his already impressive performances in the 200-meter dash and ultimately earn a spot at the regional and even national meet in May and June.
